“I currently have my own business as a freelance fitness instructor. I qualified over 20 years ago and always worked for gyms and community health centres.
“I set up my own business when Barnsley Hospital launched its own Healthy Workplace initiative, aiming to improve health and well-being for staff. As part of this I set up fitness classes at the social club.
“When the funding for this ran out, the classes were doing so well I decided to continue them myself – and I haven’t looked back since.
“My classes are still quite successful and I’ve invested a lot back into training to do other courses so I can stay up to date with class demand and move with the times.
“I’ve also met some great people and influential contacts throughout my journey.
“I’ve done lots of fundraising within my fitness business and I now also work part time as a fundraising assistant for Barnsley Hospital Charity, a role which I also thoroughly enjoy.”
